A simple question, how can you edit your profile avatar to your liking and can your users do it?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Joriss,

Anyone can (and should) register for a Gravatar (the user avatar/icon to which you are referring). It’s free, and only takes a minute to associate a photo with your email address.

Sign up for a Gravatar at: Gravatar.com

    Hope this helps!

Why do you say they should have a gravatar. I am building a site that will be mostly subscribers, and it will be more of a website than a blog. What benefit is a gravatar for that?

Thanks for the video. Looking forward to seeing more soon!?

    Hi Karlene,

A gravatar is simply the best way to identify users who post comments to your site… whether it’s a website or a blog. If you’ve got users who post comments frequently, it helps everyone to identify and recognize those folks, which builds relationships. And who wouldn’t want that? :)

In the end, it’s not a requirement, but is certainly a good practice for anyone who intends to build an online reputation.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn,
    Thanks for the nice tutorial.
Does wordpress allow a set up, so that any user can log on and post directly without any approval of the admin.

I was thinking of sites like youtube, facebook, where user signs up and start posting and sharing. No admin need to approve anything. I wonder if wordpress allows that function as well.

    Hi Vincent,

This question might have been better suited for the Q&A Board, but here goes…

The answer to this question depends upon whether you’re talking about the ability to post comments or actually create full-on blog posts and pages. You can visit Settings > Discussion to enable/disable the ability for folks to post comments on your site, usually in response to your blog posts or pages.

The ability to create blog posts or pages is usually limited to user accounts with higher permissions. You can set the “New User Default Role” in Settings > General to “Editor,” which will enable new users to create and publish new blog posts or pages, or to “Author,” which will enable new users to create new blog posts or pages that must be approved and published by an Administrator.

It’s typically not a good idea to allow the general public to be able to publish blog posts to your website without approval, but if you wish to do so, this is how.

    Hope it helps!

    Hi Shawn,

Can I automatically add a WP subscriber after they fill their information in my Autoresponder Form?

  8. Shawn January 17, 2012 at 10:43 am #

    Hi Alva,

Not by default. You’ll have to consult with whomever is powering your autoresponder service, and see if they offer any type of integration with WordPress. Gravity Forms offers some fantastic integration with popular autoresponders and WordPress. Check them out!
