If you like, you can customize the appearance of your Product Catalog with BigCommerce for WordPress. In this video tutorial, we’ll show you how to customize the layout of the Product Catalog in BigCommerce for WordPress, using the Customizer.
You can get to the Customizer from the WordPress dashboard by going to “Appearance” and selecting “Customize.”
Or, if you’re already viewing the front-end of your site, you can use the “Customize” link in the admin bar.
To preview changes in real-time, make sure you’re viewing the Catalog page in the Preview panel.
Next, open the BigCommerce “Product Catalog” settings.
In our example, we’ll change the page title from “All Products” to “Products.”
The “slug” is the URL for this page. We don’t recommend changing this after launching your store, unless you create a redirect. So, we’ll leave it alone.
Next, you can add a page description, and as you type, you’ll see it appear in the real-time preview, beneath the page title.
You can also control the sorting and filtering options that are provided to customers. Unchecking these options will remove the controls from the page.
And, you can modify the layout settings. In our example, we change the number of columns to “3” and choose to show “30” products per page.
The final setting controls the product thumbnail behavior. With “Quick View” enabled, clicking a product thumbnail will display a pop-up modal window, containing limited information about the product. Otherwise, clicking the thumbnail will take customers to the single product page.
When you’re happy with the preview, select “Publish” to make the changes visible to the public.
If you want to create a completely custom layout, you may wish to use custom child templates — which we’ll cover in the next video!
