After installing BigCommerce for WordPress and selecting a theme, the next thing you’ll probably want to do is tweak your store’s appearance. In this video tutorial, you’ll learn how to use the WordPress Customizer to change button text, colors, and styles used throughout your BigCommerce store.
If you’re in the WordPress Dashboard, you can get to the Customizer by going to “Appearance” and selecting “Customize.”
Or, if you’re already viewing the front-end of your site, you can use the “Customize” link in the admin bar.
Once you’re inside the Customizer, you’ll see a control panel and a preview of your site. Every change you make in the control panel will update the preview in real-time. These changes are only visible to you until published.
The control panel is divided into different sections. The sections you see will change based on which theme and plugins you’ve activated.
For now, let’s focus on the BigCommerce settings. Here you’ll see six sub-sections: Buttons, Colors & Theme, Product Single, Product Catalog, Cart, and Embedded Checkout.
Let’s start with the Button settings and change a few labels.
For this example, we’ll change the “Add to Cart” label to, “Add to Basket”. And then we’ll change the “Choose Options” button to say, “Configure” instead.
Because we’re looking at a BigCommerce page in the Live Preview, we can preview these changes in real-time.
Now, let’s go back and adjust our store colors. In our example, we’ll change the Button color to a shade of purple that matches our store’s brand. Next, we’ll change the sale color to a complementary orange.
And finally, let’s take a quick look at the single product page. Toward the bottom of the template, you’ll see a few related products.
If you open the “Product Single” settings, you can change the number of related products.
When you’ve finished making changes and are happy with what you see in the Live Preview, select “Publish” to make the changes visible to the public.
